Stiglmeier Griebenschmalz Crackling Fat approx. 8oz reviews
Not quite like grandma's version or the ready made Schmalz available in Germany. However, if you have an appetite for a Schmalzbrot, it will do. The Grieben are very small, I remember them a lot larger and crunchy. Taste is fine and together with the Brinker Rye bread and a bit of salt it will satisfy. Just wish German Deli would import some good Griebenschmalz from Germany, that would be GREAT.
This brought back so many good memories and tasts just like I remember it-fantastic!!!!!I am looking forward to buying this product in the future.
we were pleasantly surprised - the Schmalz is bursting with flavor - we only added some fresh cracked black pepper to the Schmalz-brot - Hmmm!
This is a very good but very plain sort of Schmalz. I made my own version with this one and it came out like my grandma used to make it. I heat the Schmalz over low heat on a stove in a regular pot, put in some (1 or 2) diced sour apples, 1 onion and some bacon, and a bay leaf. Let that slowly sizzle for about an hour (ALWAYS STAY IN THE KITCHEN WHEN YOU HEAT FAT) until everything is golden brown or darker if you like, then fill it in a fireproof pot and let it cool. When you use that as a spread or for Abendbrot... just a little salt and... perfect!!! So 5 stars from me :) Keep refrigerated
maybe good for cooking but not really good as a bread spread. it cannot compare in anyway with Schmalz from the NRW area in Germany. Those are spiced and flavored and have an excellent taste.
Hey what can i say.Love it
